Gesso, gesso, gesso

I feel like the Queen of Gesso right now.  I've got several canvases drying as we speak.  I painted a bit the other day but it didn't feel right if you know what I mean.  So I gessoed over it and started anew.

Trying my hand at more muted colors.  I have done a lot of bold pieces and I think its time to try something new.  I still want to do a series off of the 'Sentinel' painting that I did back in 2010.  I also think that I'm going to do a series of smaller sized paintings. Most of my work is rather large and to be honest, it's the small canvases that intimidate me more. Weird huh?

Going to try and get to some classes this year.  Nothing gets my creative engine going than learning something new from other artists.  I would like to learn how to create encaustic work, better collage techniques and maybe up sharpen my drawing skills (pardon the pun).  I also want to do more mixed media pieces.

Have you used Epoxy Resin to finish your art? I love the final product but there seems to be some folks saying don't use it on canvas and others do use it on canvas.  There also seems to be specialized resin for artists and then some are using normal resin from the hardware store.  I'm a tad confused but will do more digging.  I love the depth that it gives some paintings.  I'm sure it's a bear to photograph though.  Just using Gloss Medium and I get that notorious white area on the picture.  That is something else I can learn...how to more effectively photograph my work.  See...so much to do!

Are you taking any classes this year?  If so, share with me.  Perhaps it will spark a new post or at least a conversation between you and I.

This year feels fresh and new for me for some strange reason.  Its like I've been in a fog for the last year and now its burning off. I am hopeful for the first time in a long while and that makes me happy. :)  I hope that you are feeling this way too!

Well, enjoy this sunny, crisp day!
