Hey Guys
It's been a bit but this is the time of year for lots of distractions. I admire artists that can maintain a real focus this time of year (especially those of us with children).
I've been teaming with ideas lately and sadly no time to go into the studio. I've seen some books on encaustic that look really great. I would love to take a class on that. There appears to be many methods to create this wonderful artform and even ways to make acrylics look like encaustic. I'll have to do some digging as to where I can learn more about this. Maybe Jerry's?
I also would really like to learn how to stretch my own canvas. There are many times that I would love to be able to work larger than what I can purchase. I guess there would be methods of not even using a frame but I think it would be a valuable skill to learn either way. If anyone knows where or who would be the best resource in the Raleigh, NC area to learn from, I'm all ears.
So, how has your creative life been treating YOU? Lots of cool things your cranking out? Gifts for friends? Ophelia my dear, are you busy working on those lovely journal pages of yours?
As you all know I've been tied up with family stuff and unable to work in the studio. I have been busy with some ideas and re-watching some of my favorite artists. I bought a new sketch journal and am excited about some of the new things I would like to try. One of my favorite artists says to create something you've never seen before. I like that. That is what I try to do. I don't want to copy anyone...I like to glean insights and maybe some techniques, but I want to put it into my own practice.
There is a place in Durham, NC that has scraps of things and is literally called the Scrap Exchange. I have yet to go but would love to over the holidays. I want to create more dimensional art and perhaps this is the place to start and get some juicy ideas.
Anyway, I went to Jerry's (aka my favorite store) last week and picked up some new supplies. I bought some glass beads media and some paints that I've been running low on. I just love that store. Sometimes I just go to walk around and soak up the artistic 'vibe' if you know what I mean. LOL
Well, stay warm and have fun with whatever creations you're involved in.
~Peace

I can relate to "no time to go in the studio." With me it is writing, not art, but sadly there is never enough time :o) Good luck finding what time and energy you can! Andrew (To Love, Honor, and Dismay)
ReplyDeleteI know. I would love to write more as well. Good luck to you in finding that time to write! :D
